A Message from Our Sheriff

Howdy Westerners,

I trust all is going well with each of you and you are readying for winter and the upcoming holidays.

I am hoping one or more of you is considering becoming our 2027 Deputy Sheriff. As in recent years, we haven’t been able to fill this very important position until past mid-year, and in my case until October of 2025.

By many standards, I was and still am a relatively new member of the Prescott Corral. Like you, I enjoyed our dinners, camaraderie and guest speaker presentations. As you should know, our By-laws and Procedures require we elect a Deputy each year who then becomes Sheriff the following year.

After listening to Sheriff Penny’s “No Deputy, no Sheriff; No Sheriff, no Corral” speech/plea in August of 2025, and not wanting our Corral to allow itself to disband, I decided to volunteer.

I am very pleased that Deputy Dennis Tuberty stepped up this past June for the very same reason. He will be taking over as Sheriff in January 2027. I know he’d appreciate having a Deputy to mentor much earlier in the calendar year than Penny and I did.

You should all feel very fortunate that we have a very experienced and dedicated Posse who helps make our Corral meetings happen. I am very appreciative of their support and help. Anyone who becomes our 2027 Deputy will experience that same support and camaraderie.

November has two very important days for remembrance and celebration. Well, actually three if you are a Marine. I wrote “are” because, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”

The Marine Corps Birthday is on Tuesday the 10th. Veterans Day, formally Armistice Day, follows the next day on Wednesday the 11th. Thanksgiving Day is on Thursday the 26th.

One of our Corral members sent me an email questioning and lamenting why our veterans get only one day a year while hundreds of other groups and causes get a whole week or month. Great question. But then most of us honor them all year long.
