Howdy Westerners,
The start of July is going to be packed full of things to do and celebrate. First comes our Corral dinner meeting on July 2nd. Did you know July 2nd is also World UFO Day? Neither did I! Anyway, we’ll have our usual meet and greet from 5:00 PM to about 6:00 PM, then our business meeting followed by a buffet dinner. Right after dinner we will be treated to a program that previews the upcoming Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering.
Then, on Saturday, July 4th comes the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. I hope you all plan to celebrate and give thanks for this special day. And don’t forget to proudly fly your American flag! The Prescott Rodeo Parade will be held in downtown Prescott also on July 4th beginning at 9:00 AM. If you plan to attend, you’ll want to get downtown early. This year’s Prescott Rodeo Parade theme is “Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom.”
The Prescott Frontier Days Inc., 139th World’s Oldest Rodeo will run from June 29th through July 5th. Advance tickets are best purchased in person at the Rodeo Grounds ticket booth. For more information, visit worldsoldestrodeo.com.
Don’t miss our Western History Symposium to be held at the Phippen Museum on Saturday, July 25th! We’ll have a full day of presenters focused on Western Art. Lunch will be available from food vendors at your own expense. We’ll have more details for you at our July 2nd Corral meeting.
You can help support our Symposium and Corral by buying tickets for the drawing of the Virgil Earp painting by Bob Boze Bell. The drawing will be held at the Symposium. You need not be present to win.
I appreciate all the members of our Corral. I’ve been told that our Corral is probably the largest and most active in the nation. I know many of you also help support the other local organizations that preserve our history through your memberships, volunteering your time, or giving generously. We all should feel truly blessed to live in the greater Prescott region.
